I'm sure I'll be hung over later, if the dizzy feeling in my head ever goes away.

My friend Jennifer was visiting from London and we met for a drink last night after work, and that turned into dinner with her friends at Les Enfant Terrible. It's a very cute little restaurant on the Lower East Side. I had--you guessed it--broiled squid to start, and then duck confit. It was very tasty, and our waitress was a robust woman with a French accent thick enough to butter your bread with. The bread, speaking of bread, was not so great. Why have a nice little restaurant with tasty food without having fresh crusty bread?

Dinner was only the beginning of the night. The middle and the end were spent singing loudly and drunkenly at Winnie's--a funny karaoke bar in Chinatown. The three of us--Jennifer, her friend Caroline, and myself--sang so many songs, most of which I don't remember now. But I remember singing Sweet Caroline two or three times. I also sang my signature karaoke song: He Stopped Loving Her Today. I also sang My Way, my way. Jennifer has a deep sultry speaking voice, but she sings soprano, and quite nicely. At 4.30am, or whenever we left there, I threw the girls into a cab, and walked myself home.

Amazingly, I made it to work at 9.30am--bacon, egg, and cheese on a roll and a bottle of Pellegrino in hand.

Tonight: the ballet, with Carter and Andrew.
